Challenge this month: Cut the salt. Want to cut down on your salt? Don’t just look at your saltshaker. Studies have shown that those added dashes account for just 10% of total sodium consumption. The real culprit is processed foods and restaurant meals. You’d be amazed at all the salt hiding in popular “healthy” breakfast cereals, vegetable juices, cold cuts and canned foods. That’s a good argument for cooking your own food from scratch, which can help you eat healthier food and also help to bring serving sizes down to a healthy place.
Start Small: Track your daily sodium by reading food labels. Keep it below 2,500 mg a day, or lower if your doctor recommends it.
Finish Remarkable: Replace processed foods with fresh, home-cooked alternatives.
Our registered dietitian, Jamie, recently shared an easy recipe for homemade veggie or chicken stock. A great way to keep the flavor without the added sodium. Check it out!
